WHO WE ARE

Ben Mekie, founder of acuity associates, left Southampton University in 1991 and began his career at Deloitte’s Chartered Accountants in London.

In 1994 he moved into the music industry working in accounts departments and on royalty accounting for pop stars. In 1997 he started his first business “Carbon”; growing the business from a single retail outlet into a chain of 7 shops and associated record label.

In 2001, using his experience of running and owning an SME, he started to provide bookkeeping and management accounting services to SMEs and larger corporates. Having worked in Carbon as the sole accountant performing all the bookkeeping duties and simultaneously being Finance Director, stock take clerk, credit controller etc etc. for 4 years gave him the critical insights as to the skills and experience required to fulfil all the accounting functions for an SME.

In 2005 he joined outsourcing firm First Source as European CFO. First Source is a large outsourcing company with centres in India, USA, Argentina and Northern Ireland. After First Source floated on the Mumbai Stock exchange in 2007 the bug to work as an entrepreneur bit again and Ben left to found acuity associates.

From a standing start in July 2007 acuity now services 92 clients with 26 associates and continues to grow steadily.
